Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance, repairs and diagnostics on a diverse fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery. You will install accessory equipment, perform welding, and work unsupervised on field repair assignments when needed.

The role requires reading technical manuals, using diagnostic tools, and safely operating lifts and shop equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with one year vocational/technical training specific to heavy equipment and automotive repair.
• Three years of progressively responsible related work experience.
• Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, repairs and diagnostics of electronic components and power train controls on Mesa County's fleet.
• Install specialized accessory equipment such as two-way radios, cell phones, laptops and modems.
• Provide welding and fabricating work and other general duties as assigned; may work alone in field repair scenarios.
• Log labor time and repair notes to electronic work orders using a desktop, laptop or tablet.
• Perform DOT-mandated safety inspections and certify vehicle safety.
• Occasionally perform field repairs away from shop with a service truck.
