Job summary

Mesquite ISD seeks a Transportation Supervisor to oversee the yellow-fleet maintenance team, coordinate inspections, repairs, road calls, and fueling records to ensure safe, reliable operations. This role requires managerial skills, state certifications, and a strong background in vehicle maintenance.

Applicants should hold a Master's Degree, Texas Teacher Certificate, and related bus/inspector certifications, with at least 5 years as a certified mechanic.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree and Texas Teacher Certificate required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.
• Texas Education Agency School Bus Driver Certification required.
• State of Texas Vehicle Inspector Certification within 2 months of hire.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a certified mechanic.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily work of assigned mechanics and helper; prioritize by safety, route needs, preventive maintenance deadlines, and vehicle availability.
• Assign repair work; monitor progress and verify workmanship; escalate issues to Fleet Manager.
• Enforce shop safety procedures, tool use, housekeeping, parts control, and professional standards.
• Conduct or coordinate required state inspections and ensure deficiencies are corrected before vehicles return to service.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and corrective work for district buses and semi-equipment.
• Respond to or coordinate road calls for vehicle breakdowns and provide timely information to Dispatch and leadership.
• Verify repaired vehicles are safe and ready for service before release.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure documentation is complete in the system.
• Assist with fueling records and related documentation.
• Report recurring mechanical trends and workload issues to Fleet Manager.
• Manage day-to-day shop workflow: work orders, inspections, maintenance, repairs, road calls, labor, parts, and status; ensure electronic documentation is complete.
