Position Purpose

Performs complex repairs on tractors, trailers, and yard tractors. Identifies and monitors issues to recommend repair or replacement.

Essential Functions

1. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and general repairs.
2. Diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, including ABS.
3. Electrical diagnostics and repairs.
4. Diagnose and repair liftgate systems; weld and fabricate as needed.
5. Diagnose and repair drivelines, steering, and suspensions.
6. Enter repair orders and track time in the RTA Maintenance Program.
7. Charge all parts to repair orders.
8. Perform tire and wheel end maintenance.
9. Ensure quality work and productivity.
10. Mentor junior mechanics to broaden their knowledge.
11. Perform other relevant duties as required.

Job Requirements

1. Preferred 2 years of mechanical experience or technical training plus 1 year of experience.
2. Own all necessary hand tools for applicable areas.
3. Experience in driving/moving Class A equipment is preferred.
4. Certifications in tire and wheel, brakes, HVAC, FHWA DOT inspections are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Own all necessary hand tools.
2. Ability to repair brakes, rear doors, air systems, and electrical systems with minimal supervision.
3. Good judgment and ability to work independently at times.
4. Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Environment and Demands

1. Regularly stand, sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
2. Use calculators, keyboards, phones, and other office equipment.
3. Perform stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting up to 75 pounds.
4. Work in temperatures from 20°F to 90°F.
5. Perform repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements.
6. Work overhead and in/on/under equipment.
7. Require manual dexterity, coordination, and good balance.
8. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
