Job summary

The City of Saint Paul seeks a Vehicle Technician to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and municipal gear. You’ll work with advanced diagnostic tools to keep the City’s fleet operating safely and efficiently.

Expect a four 10-hour night shift rotation with a night differential after 6 pm, and opportunities to support a diverse fleet across departments. ASE and CDL requirements may apply based on role scope and department needs.

Qualifications

• Completion of a two-year heavy truck/heavy equipment repair program plus 3 years of related experience.
• Alternative: two-year automotive repair program plus 3 years of related experience.
• Documentation of a mechanical/repair apprenticeship plus 3 years of experience.
• Small engine/grounds/turf program plus 3 years of related maintenance experience.
• Six years of progressive maintenance/repair experience in listed equipment classes.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and multiplex systems.
• Service and maintain heavy trucks, construction and related municipal equipment.
• Document inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and labor in fleet systems.
