Job summary
City of Minneapolis is seeking a skilled Automotive Technician to perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment for city fleets. The role involves diagnosing electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems, welding, and ensuring OEM standards.
On-site work with second shift; ability to drive snow plow and perform annual DOT inspections is valued. Applicants must have 3+ years of repair experience, 18-24 month program in automotive tech, and hold a valid driver's
Qualifications
- Completion of an 18–24 month automotive maintenance/repair program at an accredited school
- Three years of motor vehicle/equipment repair experience, including one year with medium/heavy‑duty vehicles and diesel engines
- Equivalency: 5+ years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, install and repair hydraulic systems, transmissions, engines, electrical systems, brakes
- Fabricate parts and accessories using welding equipment
- Install/repair electrical wiring in equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance to OEM standards
- Record repairs and orders using EMIS/M5 and logbooks
- Drive snowplow trucks/equipment as needed
- Complete annual DOT inspections and repairs as required
