Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a seasoned supervisor to oversee a range of roadway maintenance activities, supervise a crew, and provide technical guidance to ensure safe and efficient operations across light to heavy equipment.

Responsibilities include planning maintenance programs, managing safety compliance, coordinating traffic control in work zones per MUTCD, preparing reports and budgets, and training staff to meet DOT standards and performance goals.

Qualifications

• Ability to direct, evaluate and train others.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications thereafter.
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Ability to perform manual labor.
• Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Communication with citizens, officials, and customers; provide status updates and respond to inquiries.
• Supervise emergency operations to ensure safe operation of roadways and traffic control.
• Plan maintenance programs, supervise staff needs, and forecast funds for staffing and equipment.
• Plan, schedule, supervise and perform placement and removal of traffic control devices.
• Prepare and maintain program and project documentation and budget reports.
• Identify hazards and ensure workplace safety following rules and MUTCD standards.
• Direct activities of personnel and equipment; complete daily work reports; provide staff development and training.
