Job Title: Fleet Diesel Mechanic

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY

Department: Fleet

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Fleet Supervisor

Pay Grade: Hourly Wage $30-37 per hour

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect ambulances and other vehicles for fluid levels, service hours, mileage, proper operation, and damage.
• Remove units from service as necessary for preventive maintenance or repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance or repairs to ensure safe and reliable operations.
• Maintain a safe and organized work area, safeguarding tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
• Complete work orders, failure reports, logbooks, and other records.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not supervise any employees.

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED
• Driver's License
• Diesel Mechanic Certification
• Completion of apprenticeship in automotive or truck repair
• Three to five years' experience in maintenance and repair of diesel vehicles.

Knowledge

• Operation, service, and repair of ambulances, other vehicles, and equipment.
• Mechanical tools and equipment used in service and repair.
• Experience with diesel and gasoline engines is preferred.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electric systems.

Technical Skills

• Operate, service, and repair vehicles and related equipment.
• Use diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Exercise judgment and dexterity, follow repair manuals.

Behavioral and Physical Skills

• Diagnose and troubleshoot service problems.
• Work independently, sometimes during odd hours.
• Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, lift up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment

High-stress environment, outdoors, exposed to weather, noise, and mechanical hazards.
