Job summary

Sioux City Community School District Operations & Maintenance is seeking a full-time Auto Mechanic to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel buses, trucks, and related equipment in Sioux City, IA. This role includes performing preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and occasional bus driving as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED with auto tech training or experience, CDL with passenger and air brake, and DOT medical clearance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with related training; CDL with passenger and air brake within 30 days.
• Must pass DOT Medical Exam and participate in DOT random drug/alcohol testing.
• Experience or training in repairing school district fleet vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and engine problems in buses, trucks, and fleet vehicles.
• Overhaul engines, transmissions, differentials, brake systems, and related components; inspect worn parts.
• Repair or replace fuel systems, exhaust systems, emission controls; maintain electrical systems.
• Repair and rebuild generators, starters, ignition systems; test with diagnostic equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and regular bus safety inspections; read safety data sheets and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
• Substitute as a bus driver when necessary.
