Job summary

City of Sioux Falls is seeking a skilled journeyman mechanic to repair, maintain, and inspect light and heavy fleet vehicles and equipment. You will support other fleet shops during ice and snow events and help plan repairs and budgets.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, automotive/diesel training, and at least three years of journeyman experience. ASE brake certs are required; CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred or to be obtained within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; automotive/diesel training preferred.
• Minimum 3 years as a journeyman mechanic.
• ASE certifications in truck brakes required; others desirable.
• Must obtain truck brakes ASE within 1 year of hire.
• Valid Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and inspections on varied equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs on light and heavy municipal equipment.
• Inspect and overhaul vehicles including hydraulics, fuel systems, brakes, and transmissions.
• Maintain daily records of parts and labor.
• Assist in planning repairs and budgeting for tools and equipment.
• Perform snow/ice control operations as required.
• Assist in training permanent or temporary staff.
• Adhere to safety standards around hazardous materials and heavy equipment.
