Job summary

The City of Indianapolis is seeking a Maintenance Technician to provide general maintenance to city vehicles in support of operating activities. You will read work orders, diagnose issues, and perform repairs in a busy garage setting.

Responsibilities include interpreting manuals, applying maintenance modifications, and operating tools and equipment safely. A valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED are required, with physical capability to lift heavy parts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have a valid Operator's license upon reporting to work.
  • Knowledge of basic repair procedures and techniques for vehicle repair.
  • Must have hand tools relevant to this type of repair upon reporting for work.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Reads work orders and maintenance forms to determine vehicle condition and maintenance needs.
  • Diagnose and isolate causes of malfunctions in vehicles to be repaired.
  • Interpret and apply information from manufacturers' manuals, lube orders, and related data.
  • Adjust operating mechanisms using gauges and templates.
  • Times magnetos, distributors, injectors, and injection pumps for timing.
  • Replace subassemblies and components as needed.
  • Instruct and assist lower skilled personnel in maintenance practices.
  • Operate wrecker or service trucks.
  • Observe all job-site safety regulations.
  • May be required to work overtime.
