Job summary

Indy is seeking a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician to service the City's fleet of heavy equipment. You will diagnose wear, repair diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, and dismantle components for repair using precision tools.

You will recondition and assemble units, test with specialized equipment, and read manuals for maintenance. Leadership of juniors and after-hours travel are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL license with Class B endorsement or obtain within 180 days.
• Working knowledge of diesel engine systems and components.
• Thorough knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical air systems for diesel engines.
• Ability to read operating and service manuals and follow written instructions.
• Ability to operate and test equipment used for repair work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Provide maintenance on City's heavy equipment; examine wear and malfunctions.
• Dismantle and inspect components to determine repairs or replacements.
• Recondition and assemble units on heavy equipment.
• Test operate equipment to localize deficiencies using specialized tools.
• Interpret manuals and data for maintenance work.
• Instruct subordinates in inspection, maintenance and testing.
• Perform final inspection; travel to field sites as needed; after-hours/weekend duties common.
