Job summary

Alts, founded in New York City, seeks experienced Fitter Tailors to deliver expert alterations across menswear, womenswear, bridal, and specialty garments. You will conduct fittings, communicate garment recommendations, and collaborate with the studio team to ensure premium client experiences.

Candidates should bring 7–10 years of tailoring experience and 2–3 years of fitting, including fitting both men's and women's garments.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct professional fitting sessions and create a warm, welcoming client experience.
• Communicate garment recommendations, fit considerations, and alteration plans clearly.
• Partner with front-of-house to ensure a seamless fitting to pickup journey.
• Execute high-quality alterations using industrial sewing machines and tailoring equipment.
• Work across menswear, womenswear, and bridal garments and grow expertise in complex alterations.
• Demonstrate technical judgment when handling delicate or specialty fabrics.
• Maintain production pace while upholding Alts quality standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve technical skills and alteration capabilities.
• Inspect finished garments and address any alterations or quality concerns promptly.
• Support the Tailor Shop Manager and studio team to stay organized and productive.

What You’ll Own

Client Experience & Fittings

• Conduct professional, thoughtful fittings in accordance with Alts fitting standards.
• Create a warm, welcoming experience where every client feels heard, respected, and confident in our expertise.
• Build meaningful relationships with clients, brands, stylists, and members of our partner community.
• Clearly communicate garment recommendations, fit considerations, and alteration plans.
• Partner with the front-of-house team to ensure a seamless experience from fitting through final pickup.
• Represent Alts with professionalism and confidence in every client interaction.

Tailoring & Production

• Execute high-quality alterations using industrial sewing machines and other tailoring equipment.
• Work across menswear, womenswear, and bridal garments, with the opportunity to develop expertise in increasingly complex alterations.
• Demonstrate strong technical judgment when working with delicate, structured, specialty, and difficult fabrics.
• Meet individual production expectations while maintaining the quality and craftsmanship standards of Alts.
• Complete garments accurately and efficiently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Identify opportunities to improve your technical skills and expand your alteration capabilities.

Quality, Accuracy & Studio Operations

• Inspect your work carefully to ensure garments meet Alts quality standards before completion.
• Communicate re-alterations and quality concerns promptly to the appropriate team members.
• Accurately track and scan production throughout the day.
• Partner with the front desk to ensure production information, garment status, and client expectations remain accurate.
• Identify inefficiencies in workflow and proactively suggest solutions.
• Support the Tailor Shop Manager and broader studio team in maintaining an organized, productive, and collaborative shop.

What We’re Looking For

You bring a combination of technical skill, professionalism, curiosity, and care.

• Experienced: You have 7–10 years of professional alteration and tailoring experience.
• Experienced Fitter: You have 2–3 years of fitting experience and at least 1 year of experience fitting both men's and women's garments.
• Technically Skilled: You are confident operating sewing machines and executing a broad range of alterations.
• Detail-Oriented: You take pride in precision and consistently check your work for quality and accuracy.
• Client-Focused: You enjoy working directly with people and can translate technical tailoring knowledge into a clear, comfortable client experience.
• Communicative: You listen carefully, communicate clearly, and know when to ask questions or seek another perspective.
• Organized: You can manage your production, stay on top of priorities, and maintain an orderly workspace.
