The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a detail‑oriented Fiscal Support Specialist to support the procurement, contracting, and financial operations of assigned departments. In this foundational role, employees work under general guidelines and report directly to the Budget Director or Finance Director. This position offers an excellent entry-point for a professional looking to build a career in public sector Finance, Procurement, and Administration.
Position Duties
- Assist Finance, IT, and internal units by handling day‑to‑day procurement and administrative tasks for department leadership.
- Receive, review, process, and maintain critical financial records, including requisitions, financial justifications, invoices, general ledger entries, and schedules.
- Coordinate directly with vendors regarding the procurement, receipt, and payment of goods and services. Serve as a reliable point of contact for department heads and staff regarding purchases and account charges.
- Communicates with department heads and staff regarding purchases, charges, and other matters.
- Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets, analyze financial data, and prepare both routine and specialized fiscal reports for leadership and budget personnel.
- Provide routine administrative support, including drafting correspondence using Word, to the Finance and Budget Directors, as well as the Chief Technology Officer.
- Performs routine administrative support to the Finance Unit and assigned departments.
- Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required. An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is preferred.
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years of administrative support experience. Prior experience in Procurement, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, or corporate/government finance is highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency in business arithmetic (including fractions, decimals, and percentages). Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and other core Microsoft software.
- Clear and concise English communication skills (written and verbal); ability to organize and format data methodically; strict adherence to deadlines and confidentiality; and a consistently respectful, professional demeanor when interacting with peers, supervisors, and the public.
Additional Information
- This role operates in a professional office environment. Depending on the assignment location, employees may interact with inmate trustees during the standard workday.
- Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Schedule fluctuations are minimal, though occasional after‑hours or weekend work may be required to meet operational demands.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post‑accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
