Job summary

Vermont State University is seeking a Student Success Advisor to manage a caseload of first-year undergraduates. You will facilitate a smooth transition into college, assist with registration for the first semester, and help advisees connect to needed resources across campus.

You will also support career and major exploration, coordinate with faculty advisors, and help design interventions to close achievement gaps for diverse student groups.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the educational goals, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives at Vermont State University.
• Understanding the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students, especially in a rural setting.
• Awareness of developmental, holistic, and proactive approaches to academic and career advising.
• Ability to provide personal non-clinical counseling and document case notes.
• Experience coordinating student support across multiple areas.

Responsibilities

• Advise a caseload of first-year undergraduates across departments and collaborate across units to meet student success goals.
• Provide inclusive, high-quality service in person, by phone, email, video, chat, and other modalities.
• Assist new students with registration and onboarding for the first semester and monitor progress toward graduation.
• Guide undeclared students through major exploration and coordinate with academic departments as needed.
• Support career readiness by connecting majors, gen eds, and career paths, and facilitating internships and micro-credentials.
