Job summary

Chesapeake College in Maryland seeks a First Year Experience Director to promote student academic success, retention and development for first-time freshmen. The director designs and implements programs, assists in New Student Orientation, teaches freshmen orientation courses, and supports advising and case management while assessing program effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, manage and assist in the assessment of an array of retention programming, including expansion of current programs SAIL (Success and Interactive Learning), HINTS (Helpful Information for Non-Traditional Students) and new retention programming that complements existing programs that increase first-year student success rates.
• Oversee budget and distribute scholarships to students who participate in FYE programming.
• Oversee recruitment of first-year students for various retention programs for which this position is responsible.
• Provide advising, academic planning and case management for first-year students.
• Partner with divisional and departmental stakeholders to provide programming and academic support for first-time freshmen.
• Assist in development and delivery of New Student Orientation programming.
• Serve on the Student Enrollment Management Planning Committee and other college-wide committees as deemed necessary.
• Develop and update course curriculum, train instructors, and maintain course assessment data and reporting as Course Lead and instructor for Freshman Seminar Course (FSC 101).
• Most of the job is sedentary, however, occasional periods of light work may be required.
• Lifting up to approximately 15 lbs. occasionally.
• The ability to work primarily within normal office conditions.
