Job summary

Lehman College is seeking an Assistant Director of First Year Initiatives to design and coordinate FYI learning communities, support faculty, and manage onboarding and course placement for first-year students.

The role involves collaboration with Admissions, Advisement, HR, and academic departments, supervising staff, and contributing to assessment efforts, with some evenings and weekends required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum four years of experience in a college setting with diverse first-year and first-generation students.
• Experience collecting and analyzing data on student learning outcomes and program success.
• Experience building partnerships across divisions including advising, academic support, counseling, financial aid, bursars, and special programs.
• Supervisory experience preferred; ability to work independently and on time-sensitive projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on the design and delivery of learning community coursework and programming for first-year students.
• Assist in hiring, observing faculty, and coordinating with departments and Human Resources to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate with Enrollment Management units to promote onboarding and placement requirements.
• Lead meetings of the First Year Advisory Committee and coordinate campus-wide interventions.
• Develop marketing and promotion strategies for FYI activities using varied media.
• Provide student inquiries support and represent the program at campus events.
