Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Member of Technical Staff - Firmware Engineer, Electronics, to develop low-level firmware for in-house robotic actuators. You will bridge hardware and AI control systems, enabling robots to see, reason, and act in real-world warehouses.

You will design and optimize real-time motor control firmware (FOC, commutation), collaborate with electronics and motor design teams, and drive robust firmware architectures with extensive hardware interfacing and validation in FAST-paced

Qualifications

• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional embedded firmware development experience in real-time control systems.
• Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded/real-time systems with microcontrollers or DSPs.
• Hands-on experience developing motor control firmware (FOC, BLDC/PMSM) and closed-loop control.
• Experience with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, EtherCAT and interfacing firmware with motor drivers and sensors.
• Ability to debug firmware and hardware issues with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and optimize embedded firmware for robotic actuators and motor control algorithms.
• Design real-time firmware for state estimation, fault detection, and protection logic.
• Define firmware requirements and hardware interfaces for new hardware revisions.
• Develop and maintain firmware for FOC and sensored/sensorless commutation.
• Build firmware test frameworks and HIL test environments.
• Collaborate with controls and AI researchers to support high-bandwidth, low-latency interfaces.
• Contribute to firmware architecture decisions and documentation.
• Support hardware bring-up and debugging with diagnostic tools.
