A leading municipality in Alaska is seeking a dedicated firefighter to perform emergency medical duties and maintain specialized firefighting equipment. The role involves responding to emergencies, conducting inspections, and ensuring the readiness of fire department vehicles. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in equipment repair. Performs firefighting and emergency medical duties; diagnoses, repairs and maintains specialized firefighter equipment and vehicles.

Responds to emergencies and performs firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties.
Provide specialized inspection, maintenance, and repair of Fire Department vehicles, fire stations, emergency equipment, and non-emergency equipment.
Maintain maintenance logs, schedules, reports, and other documents.
Maintain inventory and readiness of assigned equipment and related supplies.
Reviews status of vehicles and equipment, and recommends equipment replacement and repairs.
Assist with vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance training.
Operates and inspects emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment.
Travel to Villages for Maintenance of Apparatus and Equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of NSB Fire Department policies and procedures, firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety and legal issues.
Skill in effectively diagnosing and troubleshooting maintenance and repairs on Fire Department vehicles and equipment.
High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Two years of heavy or light duty vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance work experience;
Ability to obtain certification as State of Alaska Firefighter I and Emergency Trauma Technician within one year of appointment;
Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in internal and external environments with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures.
May be exposed to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, dangerous machinery and potential physical harm when responding to fire and rescue emergencies.
Special Equipment and Tools Utilized:
Emergency response vehicles, specialized fire department and personal protective equipment, rescue equipment and emergency medical tools and gear; also specialized repair tools and equipment.
