Job summary

City of Harker Heights Fire Department is seeking a dedicated Firefighter/EMT to respond to emergencies, operate and maintain equipment, and perform fire suppression and EMS services on a three-shift schedule. You will participate in prevention programs, documentation, and ongoing training to maintain certifications.

The role requires EMT-Basic and Texas Firefighter credentials, a Class B Driver License, and strong teamwork and customer-service skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• EMT-Basic certification and Texas Firefighter certification required.
• Texas Class B Driver License and ITLS or PHTLS Certification (or department equivalent) are required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls; drive fire apparatus to incident scenes; provide rescue, emergency medical services and fire suppression.
• Drive, operate, inspect, repair and perform other technical tasks related to the apparatus and equipment in the Fire Department.
• Perform rescue for trapped or injured persons; provide emergency medical services; operate rescue, EMS and fire suppression equipment.
• Respond to fire alarms; assist in firefighting operations; establish hydrant/hose operations and firefighting strategies.
• Maintain certifications through training; participate in and direct instruction for department personnel.
• Clean, re-equip, and restock vehicles after each call; perform inventories and vehicle checks daily.
• Participate in station cleaning and maintenance; ensure readiness of equipment and facilities.
• Study locations; inspect sprinkler systems; participate in fire prevention and code enforcement; respond to disasters and hazmat incidents.
• Document information about fire incidents and medical reports as required by policy and state law.
• All other duties as assigned.
