Job summary

The City of Huntsville's Fire and Rescue Department is seeking qualified firefighters to combat, extinguish, and prevent fires, respond to emergency medical calls, and maintain equipment. Shift work is required and physical fitness is essential.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid U.S. driver’s license, and obtain Alabama Firefighter I/II certifications within three months of completing the Fire Academy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with graduation date.
• State of Alabama Firefighter I, II certifications required or obtained within 3 months of Fire Academy completion.
• EMT-Basic certification and licensure required within 3 months of Fire Academy completion.
• Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certifications required or obtained within 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Combat, extinguish, and prevent fires; in answering emergency medical calls; and in operating and maintaining departmental equipment, apparatus, and quarters.
• Work is performed in a fire station, apparatus areas, on scene, and in training environments.
• Shift work is required and physical exertion is a regular part of the role.
