Job summary

Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) seeks a full-time Fire Science Instructor to teach introductory and advanced courses starting soon or January 2027. You will cover fire, EMS, and risk management topics, advise students, and help develop curricula.

The role requires experienced instructional capabilities, leadership in classroom settings, and participation in college service activities; appointment begins at the instructor level.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in fire, EMS, risk management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of progressive fire/EMS/risk management experience.
• Five years of related instructional experience.
• Fire Instructor I.

Responsibilities

• Teach an average of five courses per semester.
• Advise students in workforce and academic programs.
• Develop and adapt curricula for fire science courses.
• Participate in department/college committees and activities.
• Perform other professional duties related to the position.
