Qualifications

• Current Fire Instructor I certification; Fire Instructor II preferred.
• Additional credentials: LFTI/II, PALS, ACLS, CPR/BLS, PHTLS.

Responsibilities

• Assist in curriculum development; create learning activities and assessments.
• Maintain a 40-hour work week including classroom instruction, office hours, and preparation.

Job Description:

Full-time (11-month) faculty position to teach in SFSC's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire Science programs with related courses. Work schedule is 40 hours per week and may include teaching Saturdays and evenings. Teaching assignments may be in Highlands, Hardee, or DeSoto counties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Guides learning in the teaching discipline and related courses at various campuses and centers.
• Assists in curriculum development, creating learning activities and implementing assessment and planning.
• Works a basic work week of forty (40) hours which includes classroom instruction, office hours for student conferences, preparation/research and other professional activities.
• Attends and participates in departmental meetings, college-wide academic meetings, and official functions scheduled by the administration. Serves on college committees as assigned.
• Evaluates student learning outcomes and objective achievement, maintaining and reporting information as prescribed by college policies and procedures; supervises students and resolves classroom problems.
• Maintains appropriate credentials and current knowledge of developments and teaching strategies in the discipline/program areas taught. Participates in professional development activities including, but not limited to: workshops and conferences; membership in professional organizations; self-improvement course work and activities.
• Participates in and supports faculty and student activities. Maintains good relationships with community agencies and groups, participating when appropriate.
• Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
• Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Educational: Minimum of an Associate degree in any field from an institutionally accredited organization required. Must have completed the EMS Level A Instructor course as prescribed in section 64J-1.0201 of the Florida Administrative Code.Must posses a current State of Florida certification as a Paramedic, in good standing. Must posses a current State of Florida, Bureau of Fire Standards and Training certification at the Fire Instructor I level, in good standing. Fire Instructor II preferred.

Additional instructional credentials preferred: Live Fire Training Instructor I/II; Pediatric Advanced Life Support; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support; CPR/Basic Life Support; Prehospital Trauma Life support.

Experiential:Must have a minimum of three (3) years paramedic "field level provider" experience with an advanced life support provider. Previous Fire Science and EMSteaching experience preferred.
