Job summary

Pitt Community College's Continuing Education Division seeks an instructor for Fire and Emergency Management courses, delivering non-credit instruction in Fire Science, Emergency Response, Disaster Preparedness, and related Public Safety topics.

The instructor will provide classroom and practical training, prepare and teach assigned courses, maintain records, review syllabi, and participate in curriculum revisions while upholding safety, FERPA compliance, and professional standards.

Qualifications

• Instructors must possess relevant professional experience in fire service, emergency response, or emergency management.
• Hold state, national, or industry-recognized certifications appropriate for the subject.
• Teaching experience or delivery of training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
• Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
• Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
• Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
• Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
• Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
• Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
• Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality per FERPA regulations.
• Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments.
• Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge.
• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
• Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.

The Fire & Emergency Management Instructor delivers high-quality, non-credit, instruction in Fire Science, Emergency Response, Disaster Preparedness, and related Public Safety tops. Instructors provide both classroom and practical training to ensure students gain the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities necessary to respond effectively to fire and emergency situations.

• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.
• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
