Job summary

GEO Secured Services is seeking a Fire and Safety Manager to oversee facility safety and loss prevention programs. You will ensure regulations are followed, train staff and inmates, and coordinate emergency preparedness with local responders.

The role requires a background in occupational health and safety, fire safety certification, and experience in either correctional safety or related high-risk environments. Expect to manage PPE, conduct audits, and lead safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus training/education in occupational/industrial health and safety; 2 years experience in correctional safety or 5 years in military/industry with fire safety/health or loss prevention.
• Certification in fire and safety procedures within 2 years of entering position.
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA and NFPA health and safety laws/regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret safety documents and manuals.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; strong written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency in computer software used by the department.

Responsibilities

• Develops and enforces local safety policies and procedures for employees, incarcerated individuals, visitors and contractors.
• conducts regular safety inspections of the facility, equipment and vehicles; recommends corrective actions.
• Provides safety training at all staff levels and for inmates/detainees/patients.
• Trains and mentors safety personnel and participates in compliance audits of other facilities.
• Manages handling and MSDS compliance for hazardous chemicals; assesses PPE needs and usage.
• Establishes sanitation, hygiene, air quality, noise, and lighting standards; ensures NFPA/ insurer requirements are met.
• Ensures fire protection systems and safety equipment are functional; coordinates testing.
• Develops Emergency Plan with leadership; coordinates with community responders; follows FEMA guidelines.
• Conducts scheduled fire drills; maintains incident and accident records; analyzes trends and recommends corrective actions.
• Maintains OSHA log accuracy and oversees safety-related audits and repairs.
