Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding seeks a Fire Protection Engineering leader to supervise fire protection programs across shipyard operations. You will develop and implement comprehensive fire safety strategies, review designs, and guide risk mitigation for life safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a bachelor's in engineering and 6+ years of progressive experience; federal standards (NFPA, NAVSEA 8010) and leadership in a complex industrial setting are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Nice to have FE/PE or CFPS or related fire protection certification.
• Experience leading engineers, analysts, technicians, inspectors, or other technical personnel.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and manages the fire protection engineering function under senior management direction.
• Directs activities to monitor fire protection and life safety at operating sites.
• Reviews building designs, fire protection oversight, audits, and incident investigations.
• Develops long range plans, policies and procedures for NFPA, OSHA, EPA, DOE, DOD compliance.
