Job summary

IMEG is offering a Fire Protection Engineering Intern position in Des Moines, IA for a 10-12 week summer program. You will assist with design work, budgeting, and coordination across multiple disciplines under experienced engineers.

The internship emphasizes real project work, mentorship, and potential for conversion to full-time. It is based in-office with locations in Des Moines and other cities, and sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of fire protection systems for building projects according to code and IMEG standards
• Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources
• Support project budgeting and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
• Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation
• Coordinate design and schedule information with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project progress
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support contract-required services
