Job summary

Cushing Terrell in Helena, MT is seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Intern to work in-person with our Fire Protection Engineering team on real client projects. You'll learn by under licensed engineers, supporting system design for sprinklers, alarms, smoke control, and suppression.

You will review drawings, assist with risk assessments, and perform hydraulic calculations and smoke control studies, gaining exposure to NFPA and IBC codes and site visits across multiple projects in the AEC

Qualifications

• Completion of 3+ years of undergrad in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Basic understanding of building codes and standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with team across disciplines.
• Willingness to learn and adapt.

Responsibilities

• Assist with fire protection system design, including sprinklers, alarms, smoke control, and suppression systems
• Support fire risk assessments and hazard analyses under the guidance of licensed fire protection engineers
• Review building codes and standards, including NFPA and IBC, for project compliance
• Review construction drawings and specifications for code compliance
• Assist with engineering calculations, including hydraulic analysis and smoke control
• Participate in site visits and inspections to observe system installations
• Gain exposure to the variety of project types and teams across the firm
