Job summary

Thomas Young Group in Raleigh is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design systems for mission-critical data centers. You will develop sprinkler, detection and suppression systems, perform hydraulic calculations, coordinate with MEP teams and ensure NFPA and local code compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline.
• 3+ years of fire protection engineering or design experience.
• Strong understanding of NFPA standards and life-safety systems.
• Experience with hydraulic calculation and fire protection design software.
• Proficiency with Revit.
• Commercial or industrial project experience.
• Data center or mission-critical experience is a plus.
• EIT certification preferred; PE licensure a plus.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design fire protection systems for mission-critical and data center facilities.
• Develop sprinkler, detection and suppression systems.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical and plumbing teams.
• Prepare construction documents and technical specifications.
• Review RFIs, submittals and construction documentation.
• Support projects from design through construction and closeout.
• Ensure designs meet NFPA, IBC, IFC and local requirements.
• Complete hydraulic calculations and hazard assessments.
• Support fire alarm and wider life-safety design.
• Review and size equipment and perform system analyses.
