Job summary

City of Lincoln / Lancaster County seeks a strategic Fire Marshal to lead Lincoln Fire & Rescue in safeguarding the community through comprehensive fire prevention, inspection, and code-compliance operations. You will oversee division personnel, resources, and specialized functions including fire investigation, plan review, enforcement, and the Hazardous Device Team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in fire science, fire protection engineering, public administration, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in fire prevention, inspection, or life safety, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee division personnel, resources, and specialized functions including fire investigation, plan review, enforcement, and the Hazardous Device Team.
• Set priorities, guide staff development, evaluate operational effectiveness, and maintain high levels of technical and professional expertise.
• Lead community risk-reduction efforts through data analysis, targeted prevention strategies, and public education initiatives.
• Coordinate with City departments, legal staff, regulatory agencies, and community partners to address compliance and service delivery.
• Represent the department in professional activities and contribute to special projects and citywide goals.
