Job summary

The Danville Fire Department seeks a Fire Marshal to lead the community risk reduction program, coordinate fire prevention, inspections, plan review, investigations, public education, and the Knox Box program throughout the service area.

Under the Deputy Chief of Administration, the Fire Marshal independently manages programs, ensuring compliance with codes while maintaining records and supporting budgeting and community outreach.

Qualifications

• Valid Indiana driver’s license.
• Successfully pass background check.
• U.S. Citizen.
• IDHS Fire Inspector I.
• IDHS Fire Investigator.
• Maintain required certifications throughout employment.
• Within one year: IDHS Fire Inspector II.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and administer community risk reduction activities.
• Conduct fire and life safety inspections of buildings, occupancies, facilities, and special events.
• Review construction plans and occupancy changes for fire safety concerns.
• Coordinate or witness acceptance inspections and testing of fire protection systems.
• Conduct or coordinate fire origin and cause investigations.
• Develop and deliver fire and life safety education for residents and groups.
• Manage the Knox Box program and related access records.
• Provide inspection and occupancy information to operations personnel and assist with preincident planning.
• Maintain records and prepare activity reports to support planning and accountability.
• Represent the department at meetings and community events.
