Job summary

Firematic seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and engineer custom fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. You will design vehicle bodies and chassis cab accessories using SolidWorks, and produce precise 2D/3D drawings for shop fabrication.

You will ensure CAD configurations prevent conflicts, document cable routing, and collaborate with Sales Engineers to align design docs with production schedules. Ideal candidates hold 2–5 years of drafting experience, SolidWorks/PDM expertise, and a strong

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, or related field.
• 2–5 years of professional drafting experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks for complex sheet metal assemblies.
• Produce production-ready drawings with accurate dimensioning and notes.
• Layout plumbing systems and electrical harnesses with proper clearances.
• Solid experience with SolidWorks PDM and design libraries.
• Read specs and design to meet customer requirements.
• Identify design or fitment problems and propose practical solutions.
• Familiarity with CNC waterjet, CNC press brakes, welding, and shop tooling.
• Create detailed assembly, fabrication, and welding work instructions.
• Maintain an extreme level of detail in BOMs and drawings.
• Team-oriented and able to communicate with customers, staff, and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Design emergency vehicle bodies and chassis cab accessories using SolidWorks.
• Produce precise 2D fabrication and 3D assembly drawings for shop use.
• Ensure CAD configurations avoid assembly conflicts.
• Document cable routing and wire harness paths for complex assemblies.
• Report to Sales Engineer to synchronize design docs and scheduling.
• Follow safety procedures on the production floor.
• Ensure products/drawings meet customer specifications.
• Generate and maintain parts lists and bills of materials.
• Keep an organized parts & design library accessible to engineers.
• Present vehicle designs to customers during Pre-Construction meetings.
• Communicate updates with management and sales staff.
• Quality-check shop work against drawings and provide feedback.
