Job summary

Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician to inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems and life-safety equipment across several facilities. You will perform annual inspections, monthly control-panel tests, and preventive maintenance, while documenting actions and coordinating with contractors as needed.

Licensing and certifications are required or pursued, including NICET Level I or higher; a valid driver's license is required and state licenses

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• NICET Level I or higher in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
• Must obtain NICET certification and other licenses within 18 months of hire.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards, fire alarm systems, and life-safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual inspections and functional testing of fire alarm systems and life-safety devices.
• Conduct monthly tests of control panels and system batteries.
• Inspect, test, and repair emergency exit signs and emergency lighting.
• Complete preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting/repairs.
• Maintain detailed reports and documentation to meet regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with outside contractors during inspections and service work.
• Stay current with NFPA standards and best practices for fire alarm systems.
