Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician to inspect, test, maintain, and repair life-safety systems across facilities in the Milwaukee area. This role requires a high school diploma or GED and 2+ years in fire alarm work; NICET certification and licenses must be pursued within 18 months.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training in electronics, fire/life-safety systems, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in fire alarm inspection, testing, or repair preferred.
  • NICET certification and state/local licenses to be obtained within 18 months of hire.
  • NICET Level I+ in Fire Alarm Systems preferred; manufacturer-specific training (Notifier, Siemens, Simplex, Bosch) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs annual inspections and functional testing of fire alarm systems, medical alarms, and life-safety devices.
  • Conducts monthly tests of fire alarm control panels and system batteries.
  • Inspects, tests, and repairs emergency exit signs, emergency lighting, and related safety equipment.
  • Completes preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintains detailed reports and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with and oversees outside contractors during inspections or service work.
  • Obtains and maintains NICET certification and applicable state/local licenses within 18 months of hire.
