Job summary

Smurfit WestRock’s Public Cloud Engineering team in Atlanta, GA drives FinOps across cloud accounts, focusing on cost management, accruals, and reporting to IT business partners and units. This role guides governance, cost strategy, and real-time visibility, partnering with Finance, Operations, Procurement, and Engineering.

The Cloud FinOps Engineer matures FinOps practices, builds cost awareness, and develops training, tools, and dashboards to optimize AWS/Azure spend and budgeting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, a relevant field, or equivalent work experience or military experience
• 4–8 years of overall IT experience
• 3+ years of enterprise cloud platform experience with Azure or AWS
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, including network and compute
• Knowledge of cloud financial management and machine learning infrastructure, including GPU cost optimization, AI workload expense modeling, and governance
• Experience establishing governance for cloud spend
• Experience with budgeting and forecasting
• Experience monitoring cloud spend
• Experience reporting and tracking cloud spend
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and across multiple internal teams and project managers
• Cloud-agnostic mindset
• Ability to create and deliver data-driven presentations for business stakeholders
• Experience managing cloud discount commitments and related governance, including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot, sustained use, and committed use discounts
• Ability to monitor cost variability in a multi-cloud environment
• Ability to provide cloud cost insights, metrics, and KPIs to stakeholders
• Experience building BI dashboards for forecasting and unit economics analysis
• Experience with cloud financial management and optimization tools
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with traditional and Agile methodologies

Responsibilities

• Process and allocate cloud accruals and month-end billing charges
• Build cloud cost allocation models for business units and IT partners
• Track and report KPIs for cost, consumption, and product-level visibility
• Implement and maintain tagging strategies for cloud cost accountability
• Support chargeback, showback, and amortization processes for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans
• Maintain budget monitoring and overage controls
• Identify opportunities for cloud cost savings and cost avoidance
• Support cloud cost forecasting and unit economics analysis
• Improve cloud cost governance, transparency, and financial controls
• Partner with Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Engineering on optimization initiatives
• Support cloud cost awareness training and FinOps adoption
• Engage with FinOps Foundation resources and cloud provider financial management programs
