Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting to join a high-performing accounting team responsible for delivering timely and accurate management reporting and financial statements.

The Senior Accountant will support monthly close activities, assist with financial statement preparation, perform accounting analysis, and contribute to process improvements across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have Upstream Oil and Gas industry experience, is detail-oriented, communicates clearly and proactively, and is self-motivated to learn, take ownership, and grow as the business evolves.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Development: Build leadership capabilities by mastering core responsibilities, gradually expanding ownership, and cross-training team members to support team capacity and professional development.
- Accounting & Financial Reporting: Prepare journal entries supporting corporate general and administrative expenses, including accruals, prepaid amortization, internal charges, benefits, derivatives, equity, and other assigned areas.
- Month-End Close: Maintain organized accounting records and assist with the monthly general ledger close. Analyze variances against prior periods and support forecasting and budgeting activities.
- Account Reconciliations: Prepare monthly account reconciliation schedules, perform preliminary reviews, research discrepancies, and assist with resolution.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with monthly management reporting, Board of Directors presentations, and quarterly and annual financial statements and related footnotes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various internal teams to gather information and supporting documentation for monthly and quarterly accounting and reporting processes.
- Audit Support: Prepare audit schedules and process-control documentation, respond to audit inquiries, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve outstanding items.
- Team Collaboration & Training: Work closely with an extended/augmented accounting team by providing training, performing preliminary reviews of journal entries and reconciliations, and providing constructive feedback to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Special Projects: Support process improvement initiatives, acquisition integrations, divestitures, ad hoc financial analysis, and other special projects. Assist in evaluating potential solutions to complex accounting matters.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain templates, reports, and processes that improve efficiency, strengthen analysis, and enhance the quality of financial reporting.
Qualifications
- 5–7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in financial reporting, corporate accounting, or a related area.
- CPA certification or active CPA candidacy preferred.
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
- Experience with technical accounting research and memo writing preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate variances and resolve complex accounting issues.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and learn new concepts quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
- Experience with Quorum or similar oil & gas accounting software is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
