Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers in Suffolk, VA is seeking an experienced financial support specialist to handle data entry, accounts payable and accounts receivable, and related fiscal transactions across multiple systems. You will interpret policy, maintain documents, and assist in preparing financial reports for internal customers.

The role requires accuracy, ability to run queries in financial software such as IMS and Cardinal, and timely communication with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers and to work independently or as a team member.
• Experience interpreting and applying basic policy, procedures and implement procedural and transactional changes.
• Experience performing data entry into automated financial systems.
• Experience preparing financial reports and running queries.
• Knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting, internal controls, inventory and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Accounts Payable: Receive, verify and reconcile invoices, review charges and distributions for accuracy.
• Accounts Receivable: Data entry, signatures, and approvals; research discrepancies and prepare reports.
• Administrative Duties: Support special projects and general administrative tasks.
• Data maintenance: Run and maintain queries in financial systems, compare expenditures, and analyze data.
• Inventory data: Enter receipts and issues, verify daily transactions, and maintain records.
• SPCC Direct Charge & Procurement: Prepare requisitions and purchase orders; verify charges and SWAM documentation.
• Time & Attendance: Enter time, overtime, leave, and equipment rental; ensure approvals.
• Travel: Process travel authorizations and reimbursements with proper documentation.
