Job summary

Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester, MA, seeks a Financial Counselor to assist patients with applying for Qualified Health Plans and insurance affordability programs, assess eligibility, and guide enrollment. The role includes managing data in EMR and billing systems, offering payment solutions, and ensuring timely processing.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CAC Certification Required.
• 2-3 years’ experience in health center registration/billing office/clinical department with knowledge of registration, insurance and billing requirements.
• Microsoft Office proficient (Excel/Access/PowerPoint/Word).
• Familiarity with Epic and Ochin PM Systems.
• Bi-lingual – Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects and verifies patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and financial information to help patients enroll in insurance plans and documents data in EMR and systems.
• Follows up with patients and gathers documentation for application processing and enters data accurately.
• Screens self-pay patients and identifies payment or discount options based on income and family size.
• Collects initial payments for sliding discounts and reviews accounts for prior balances.
• Assists patients in establishing payment plans per Financial Assistance Policy.
• Monitors self-pay balances and follows up to optimize collections.
• Reviews queues and aged trial balances to collect past due balances and current statements.
• Addresses patient billing inquiries and escalates to Revenue Cycle staff when needed.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of department policies on reimbursement and customer service.
• Delivers exemplary customer service in line with health center guidelines.
