Job summary

The Robert Baker Company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Controller will be a key member of the company's financial leadership team and will work closely with senior management on financial planning, analysis and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications

• > Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance; CPA or MBA preferred.
• > 8–10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• > Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and cash-flow management.
• > Strong GAAP knowledge and internal controls; multi-location exposure is a plus.

• Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, A/R, A/P and financial reporting.
• Lead monthly and year-end close and ensure timely, accurate statements.
• Coordinate budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
• Manage cash flow, treasury activities and working-capital management.
• Oversee tax coordination with outside professionals and annual filings.
• Coordinate external audits and financial reporting requirements.

Job description

The Robert Baker Company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Controller will be a key member of the Company's financial leadership team and will work closely with senior management on financial planning, analysis and strategic decision-making. The Controller will have responsibility for accounting and financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash-flow management, tax coordination, credit and collections, insurance, financial analysis and financial systems and controls.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Company's accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial reporting across a multi-state, multi-location organization ensuring consistent accounting practices, controls and reporting across all operating locations.
• Manage the monthly and year-end financial close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial statements and management reporting.
• Maintain and strengthen appropriate accounting procedures, internal controls and financial reporting processes.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasting.
• Analyze financial results, operating performance, margins, expenses and cash flow, and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
• Manage cash flow and treasury activities, including banking relationships, collections, payable disbursements and working-capital management.
• Oversee credit and collections activities and monitor accounts receivable performance.
• Coordinate federal, state and local tax compliance with the Company's outside tax professionals, including annual tax filings, quarterly tax estimates and tax audits.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for the Company's banks, auditors, tax professionals and other financial advisors.
• Coordinate the annual financial statement review/audit process and other external financial reporting requirements.
• Oversee business insurance programs, working with management, brokers and carriers to manage risk and control insurance costs.
• Oversee and develop accounting personnel and ensure appropriate allocation of responsibilities within the accounting function.
• Work closely with the COO to develop financial strategies and recommendations for consideration by the Executive Committee.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance required (CPA/MBA preferred).
• 8–10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience with inventory accounting and financial controls in a wholesale distribution, manufacturing, agricultural or other inventory-intensive business preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and cash-flow management.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting and internal controls.
• Experience supervising and developing accounting personnel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior management and operational leaders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working within a multi-location organization is a plus.
