Job summary

Qualifications

• US GAAP experience in a controller role or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly close and financial reporting per US GAAP.
• Manage multi‑company consolidations and intercompany eliminations.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial reports and narratives for leadership.
• Monitor project expenditures against budget and report variances.
• Lead the budgeting process with budget owners and ensure alignment with plans.
• Communicate value-added improvements to leadership across processes.
• Streamline accounting systems, close processes, and reporting for accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain SOX compliant controls across applicable processes.
• Collaborate with treasury on cash flow and covenant compliance.
• Support credit, collections, AP, audits, and other finance activities.
• Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as required.
• Supervise and develop a team of ~2–3 direct reports.

Job description

Vaco is supporting a local client with a Controller need. This position will serve as a key financial leader within the organization, with responsibility for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, cash flow, and compliance. The Controller will partner closely with senior leadership, provide financial insight to support strategic decision-making, and lead a small accounting team.

The ideal candidate will bring strong US GAAP accounting experience, a solid understanding of internal controls within a SOX environment, and the ability to identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the monthly close and financial reporting process in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring all required transactions are accurately recorded and financial statements are appropriately distributed to internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage multi-company consolidations and the elimination of intercompany transactions.
• Ensure the accuracy and timely preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and supporting narratives for senior leadership.
• Monitor and report project expenditures against budget.
• Partner with senior leadership on the annual budgeting process, working with budget owners to ensure alignment between organizational plans and financial objectives.
• Monitor budget-to-actual revenue and expenditures, analyze and report variances, and proactively recommend appropriate actions.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial accounting applications and operational procedures and effectively communicate value-added solutions to leadership.
• Continuously streamline accounting systems, close processes, and reporting procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
• Maintain SOX-compliant internal controls and safeguards across applicable business processes.
• Partner with treasury and other stakeholders regarding credit facilities, cash-flow management, and covenant compliance.
• Support credit and collections, accounts payable, loan compliance, audit requests, and other accounting and finance activities as needed.
• Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as required.
• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 2-3 direct reports.
