Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to take immediate ownership of the accounting function during a critical ERP transition. This high‑impact role requires hands‑on leadership, driving process improvements, and stabilizing month‑end close for the organization.

You will lead the 8‑person accounting team, identify reconciliation issues, and enhance reporting capabilities within the PACE system while evaluating current processes for automation and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Proven Controller or senior‑level accounting leadership experience.
• Strong background in month‑end close, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
• Experience with inventory accounting and reconciliations.
• Comfortable stepping into a fast‑moving environment and taking immediate ownership.
• Experience with ERP implementation, optimization, or process improvement strongly preferred.
• PACE experience is a plus, but not required.
• CPA is a plus, but not required.
• Hands‑on, proactive leadership style with a willingness to roll up their sleeves.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently, assess issues quickly, and implement solutions.
• Process‑oriented mindset with a focus on improving, streamlining, and automating accounting operations.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the accounting function and lead the month-end close process.
• Immediately work to bring the July and August closes current.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve inventory reconciliation issues within PACE.
• Oversee fixed asset accounting and related reconciliations.
• Build out and improve financial reporting capabilities within PACE.
• Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency.
• Strengthen recurring close, reconciliation, and financial reporting procedures.
• Partner with the 8-person Accounting team to establish stronger processes, accountability, and consistency.
• Provide hands‑on leadership and direction throughout the ERP transition.
• Troubleshoot accounting and system‑related issues and implement practical solutions.
• Identify additional opportunities to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.

This is a high‑impact, hands‑on assignment for a Controller who is comfortable stepping into a situation that requires immediate attention, taking ownership, and driving meaningful process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the accounting function and lead the month-end close process
• Immediately work to bring the July and August closes current
• Identify, investigate, and resolve inventory reconciliation issues within PACE
• Oversee fixed asset accounting and related reconciliations
• Build out and improve financial reporting capabilities within PACE
