Job description

We are partnering with a rapidly growing specialty insurance platform that is continuing to invest in its operational and financial infrastructure to support long-term growth. With strong market momentum, an experienced leadership team and ambitious plans for expansion, the business is seeking a Financial Controller to take ownership of day-to-day finance operations, strengthen financial controls and build scalable processes that can support the next stage of growth. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic insurance organisation where finance plays a critical role in supporting underwriting performance, operational excellence and strategic decision-making.

About the Role

Reporting into executive leadership, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the company's financial operations, reporting and control environment. The successful candidate will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close processes, audit management and financial controls, while helping establish the infrastructure required for a growing insurance business. This role is ideal for a hands‑on finance professional who enjoys creating structure, improving processes and delivering high-quality financial information in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
  • Lead the preparation of financial statements and management reporting.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls and governance frameworks.
  • Manage general accounting activities including reconciliations, journal entries and balance sheet oversight.
  • Oversee external audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Partner with leadership to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy.
  • Develop and enhance financial processes, controls and operating procedures.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Assist with finance system improvements and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, operations and executive leadership teams to support business objectives.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of accounting, controllership or finance experience within the insurance industry.
  • Experience within an insurance carrier, MGA, MGU or specialty insurance organisation.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
  • Experience managing audits, controls and regulatory reporting processes.
  • Understanding of insurance accounting principles and financial operations.
  • Proven ability to improve processes and implement operational efficiencies.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and accountability.
  • Comfortable operating in a growing and evolving business environment.
Required Skills
  • Delivering accurate, timely and reliable financial reporting.
  • Building scalable controls and finance processes that support continued growth.
  • Strengthening financial discipline and operational efficiency across the organisation.
  • Providing leadership with greater visibility into financial performance.
  • Successfully managing audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Becoming a trusted partner across finance, operations and underwriting teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Opportunity to play a key role within a growing insurance platform.
  • Highly visible position with exposure to senior leadership.
  • Ability to improve and build rather than simply maintain existing processes.
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial working environment.
  • Strong long-term growth opportunities as the business continues to scale.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
