Job summary

Insur-Fi, LLC is seeking a Controller to lead all accounting operations, ensure financial reporting integrity, and maintain robust internal controls. The role requires hands-on management of AR, AP, treasury, and tax filings within an insurance-focused business.

The successful candidate will report to the CFO and bring a strong background in finance, with experience across private equity-backed environments and high-growth companies. Public accounting and start-up experience are preferred assets.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of finance and accounting experience; Controller or Assistant Controller experience required.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is required.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Prior start-up experience is preferred.
  • Fiduciary/premium trust accounting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on management of accounting, control, reporting, AR, AP and financial systems.
  • Lead monthly closing with limited staff (current team of two).
  • Monitor variances to plan using customized financial models.
  • Manage daily accounting operations and monthly/year-end close.
  • Coordinate with tax preparers and review state returns.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors on state/local insurance tax filings.
  • Oversee premium financing, commissions, billing/collections activity.
  • Participate in treasury activities and ensure strong corporate controls.
  • Lead annual financial audit/review process.
  • Support annual insurance renewal processes (E&O and cyber).
  • Distribute 1099s annually.
  • Work with private equity shareholders, bankers and external stakeholders.

Job description

The Controller will be a be a finance leader within the organization, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining robust internal controls.The successful candidate will bring a solid financial and accounting background to the Company, with experience in managing accounts receivable, accounts payable as well as select treasury functions.The Controller will be responsible for providing the Company’s monthly financial/accounting reports in an accurate and timely manner and be able to learn new systems quickly.Experience in the insurance industry is a requirement for this position as the successful candidate will work with state and local tax filings for insurance policies; agency/direct billings; commission calculations; premium financing; and the recording of insurance binds on the books.Accordingly, the new Controller will be responsible for ensuring that all financial systems and controls reflect industry best practices.The position will report to the CFO.

Insur-Fi, LLC is a tech-focused insurance business specializing in commercial clients with three main divisions, including Program Management, Advisory Services and Wholesale Brokerage.The Program Management division offers MGA/MGU services in commercial property and transportation.The Advisory Services division assists clients with new program development, captive feasibility studies and pricing model creation and review.The Wholesale Brokerage division has direct relationships with nearly 40 carriers across a variety of sectors, with property being a significant portion of the portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Hands-on approach to direct and monitor the business’ financial affairs, including accounting, control, reporting, AR, AP and financial systems.
  • Comfortable taking a highly active role in the monthly closing process with limited support staff.There is currently an accounting staff of two.
  • Manage short and long-term financial performance by monitoring variances to plan using customized financial models.
  • Manage all accounting aspects in daily processes and monthly/year-end close for financials.
  • Have the ability to work with multiple operating companies under private equity ownership.
  • Responsible for coordinating with and providing information to tax preparers as well as reviewing the annual tax return, including any required state returns.
  • Coordinate with third party vendor to ensure appropriate filings of state and local taxes related to insurance policies.
  • Partner with internal and external parties to sort financial items related to insurance policies, including premium financing, commissions, billing/collections, etc.
  • Participate in treasury related items, while ensuring tight corporate controls.
  • Participate in the annual corporate insurance renewal process, including E&O and cyber.
  • Manage the process to distribute 1099s annually.
  • Lead the annual financial audit/review process.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of finance and accounting experience. Experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller is required.
  • Prior experience in the insurance industry is required.
  • Prior public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Prior start-up experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience with fiduciary / premium trust accounting.
  • Track record of success in a fast-paced, cost conscious and results-focused business.
  • A strong process focus that combines discipline around financial controls, audit, treasury and financial systems.
  • Dealings with private equity shareholders, bankers and other external stakeholders is preferred.
  • Experience building strong financial infrastructure by enhancing financial processes and systems to keep pace with growth with limited additional cost.
