  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and variance analysis.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and translate findings into recommendations.

The Finance team plays a critical role in supporting MSK's scientific and clinical research enterprise by providing financial oversight, analysis, and guidance for research programs, grants, clinical trials, and institutional initiatives.

We are seeking talented finance professionals at multiple career levels, from experienced analysts to senior-level contributors, who are passionate about combining financial expertise with a mission-driven environment. These roles offer the opportunity to partner with researchers, operational leaders, and finance teams to ensure the effective stewardship of research funding while supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.

Role Overview
  • Support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities for research-related departments, programs, grants, and initiatives.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations to support sound fiscal management and strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with research leadership, principal investigators, administrators, and finance stakeholders to monitor financial activity and address funding needs.
  • Prepare and maintain financial models, variance analyses, forecasts, and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, funding requirements, and applicable financial regulations.
  • Participate in annual budget processes, long-range financial planning, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance financial processes, reporting capabilities, and data integrity.
  • Support audits, financial reviews, and ad hoc analyses as needed.
  • Level-specific responsibilities will vary:
Financial Analyst II
  • Developing professional who applies established financial principles and methodologies.
  • Handles recurring analyses, standard reporting, and budget support activities.
  • Receives guidance on complex issues and builds subject matter expertise within research finance.
Financial Analyst III
  • Experienced analyst who independently manages complex financial work.
  • Partners directly with operational and research leaders to provide financial insights.
  • Identifies risks, opportunities, and efficiencies while driving process improvements.
Senior Financial Analyst
  • Highly experienced finance professional and trusted advisor to leadership.
  • Leads enterprise or department-wide financial initiatives and complex strategic analyses.
  • Provides mentorship, influences decision-making, and helps shape financial strategy supporting MSK's research mission.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Progressive financial analysis experience, with years and complexity aligned to the level hired:
  • Financial Analyst II: Typically 2+ years of relevant financial analysis experience.
  • Financial Analyst III: Typically 4+ years of progressively responsible financial analysis experience.
  • Senior Financial Analyst: Typically 6+ years of advanced financial analysis experience, including leadership of complex projects or initiatives.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Experience supporting research finance, grant-funded programs, healthcare finance, academic medicine, life sciences, or similarly complex environments is highly preferred.

Compensation
  • Financial Analyst II: $95,000 - $105,000
  • Financial Analyst III: $105,000 - $120,000
  • Sr. Financial Analyst: $115,000 - $140,000
