Patient Financial Services Specialist (hybrid New York City, NY)

As a Specialist I in Patient Financial Services, you will help patients maintain access to care by coordinating insurance verification, authorizations, financial guidance, and accurate information while supporting optimal reimbursement and compassionate service across MSK's care teams.
Collaborate with patients, clinical teams, administrative staff, and insurance carriers to support continued access to care and appropriate reimbursement for services.
Counsel patients before their first appointment and obtain required referrals, authorizations, and supporting documentation.
Obtain pre-certification from insurance carriers in alignment with each plan's requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of insurance guidelines and communicate updates to leadership.
Identify and report trends or changes in reimbursement patterns.
Communicate authorization outcomes to clinical and administrative staff.
Explain insurance coverage and requirements, payment responsibilities, and available financial options to patients.
Provide timely updates to clinical teams throughout the authorization process.
Educate clinical staff on patients' insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
Work autonomously while maintaining strong partnership with internal stakeholders.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding financial clearance.
Experience in patient service or customer service, with the ability to communicate financial concerns and coverage limitations with empathy and professionalism.
Proven ability to manage pre-certification or insurance related administrative tasks.
Familiarity with medical insurance carriers and coverage requirements.

Training Schedule: Monday through Friday, flexible within these hours 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST. During training, you will primarily work onsite in New York City.
Regular Schedule After Training: This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work 3-4 days per week with flexibility to be assigned to various MSK mid‑town sites and rotating Saturday shift.
Onsite days: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST
Remote days: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM EST
Saturday rotation: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST approximately every 5 weeks
Location: Hybrid role with regular onsite attendance required 3-4 days per week at MSK mid‑town sites; 53rd St, 1275 York Ave, Koch, BAIC, Kimmel
