Job summary

Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company (GTL) is seeking a Financial Accountant to join our Chicago-area team. The role focuses on Third Party Administrator accounting, treaty reviews, and mortgage investment accounting within a collaborative Finance department.

You will work on-site in our Chicagoland office (Glenview, IL) most days, with three flexible remote days per month and half-day Fridays. A 2–3 year background in insurance accounting is required and GTL offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 2–3 years of insurance accounting experience.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Access).
• Experience with ERP systems for accounting – PeopleSoft a plus.

Responsibilities

• Handle TPA accounting and reporting for multiple TPAs across lines of business.
• Review treaties and ensure proper accounting and regulatory compliance.
• Record mortgage investment activity and prepare related financial reports.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives, improvements, and system automation.
• Record journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Support monthly close with financial statement analysis and schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Third Party Administrator (TPA) accounting – responsible for the direct and reinsurance accounting and reporting for multiple TPA’s across several lines of business.
• Treaty/contract review - ensure all accounting and regulatory items are correctly implemented and followed with various reinsurance treaties.
• Mortgage Investment Accounting – record entries, prepare financial reports, and settle activity for all mortgage investments.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and process improvements, including system enhancements and automation.
• Record journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Perform financial statement analysis as part of the monthly close.
• Preparation and analysis of schedules for Annual/Quarterly Statements and audits.
• Partner and collaborate with other departments (IT, Actuarial, Legal).
• Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Accounting or Finance major preferred.
• 2-3 years of insurance accounting experience.
• Strong Microsoft skills – Word, Excel, Access.
• Experience with ERP systems for accounting – PeopleSoft experience a plus.

The pay range for this role is $53,000 - $80,000. The pay range provided is not a guarantee of compensation. The range reflects potential pay for the job grade for this role at the time of this posting. Compensation will depend on several factors such as specific competencies, relevant education and experience, qualifications, and industry certifications. Compensation ranges are subject to change and may be higher or lower than the range described above.
