University of Washington Medical Center Montlake’s Roosevelt Clinic Center for Reproductive Services is seeking a Financial Access Specialist Lead. The role supports the Financial Access Clearance Team (FACT) in evaluating patient eligibility, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating financial options.

The position includes leading projects, training staff, and ensuring adherence to policies while communicating with patients about benefits and potential financial responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus three years in a medical office setting.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute minimum qualifications unless legal requirements apply.

Responsibilities

• Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees to department.
• Review and correct the work performed by others for compliance with established procedures.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UW Medicine Patient Financial Access Services Department - Financial Access Clearance Team (FACT)

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in interviewing applicants and training and orienting new employees to department
• Review and correct the work performed by others for compliance with established procedures
• Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures; recommend changes as necessary
• Participate in and/or lead special project work
• Attend continuing education workshops and other training activities to keep up to date with current hospital practices and payer requirements
• Review scheduled appointments through patient work queue
• Obtain insurance authorizations through assigned payer administrators
• Verifying/document patients’ eligibility and benefits in Epic auth/cert
• Document progress of each case in Epic auth/cert
• Refer uninsured patients for Medicaid/Charity eligibility screening
• Prepare estimates of fees upon request from Patient Care Consultants
• Review payment options with patients
• Keeps daily productivity log as assigned
• Provides internal customers on-going status of inpatient/outpatient authorization by payor
• Collect payments
• Process payments using cash drawer in Epic
• Call patients to provide overview of limited medical benefits and Out-of-Pocket cost
• Prepare and/or facilitate the coordination of Notice of Non-Coverage forms for patient signature
• Call referring providers to obtain referrals or to initiate authorization
• Provides internal customers on-going status of inpatient/outpatient authorization from the payor for surgery
• Coordinates and explains options to patients related to potential financial responsibilities including Financial Assistance, possible Medicaid eligibility, financial implications of proceeding with or without authorizations, and in and out-of-network ramifications
• Confer with health services manager if coverage status is unclear or other information unclear
• Interpret hospital’s policies, procedures and services to patients, Financial Access Specialists, inter/intra-hospital departments and community facilities.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School diploma or GED certificate plus three years of experience in a medical office setting.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
