Job summary

Concordia Plan Services seeks a Finance Supervisor to lead payroll, AP/AR, and related accounting functions. You will coordinate month-end close, prepare analyses, and ensure internal controls and regulatory compliance while guiding a talented accounting team.

The role partners with Finance leadership, HR, and auditors to drive accurate financial operations, reporting, and process improvements in a mission-driven nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial reporting, payroll administration, budgeting, auditing, or related financial operations required.
• Two years of supervisory experience or experience coaching and training team members in accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or related financial operations preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and internal controls required.
• Working knowledge of GAAP, payroll regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements required.
• Experience with enterprise accounting, payroll, and financial management systems, as well as advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in a multi-entity, nonprofit, employee benefits, insurance, healthcare, or other regulated financial environment preferred.
• Build Strong Teams: Provide direction, coaching, accountability, and development for staff while fostering collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Accounting Specialists responsible for payroll, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable activities, including workload management, coaching, performance evaluation, staff development and issue resolution.
• Oversees payroll administration and compliance, including payroll processing, tax reporting, regulatory requirements, payroll-related accounting and reconciliations, resolution of complex payroll issues, and coordination of audits and external inquiries.
• Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, compliance with internal controls, effective vendor and customer management, and timely processing of transactions and cash receipts.
• Assists Accounting Manager in leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, supporting schedules, and financial analyses.
• Performs and reviews complex accounting analyses, including balance sheet reconciliations, income statement fluctuations, revenue and expense trends, and investigations of significant variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Oversees treasury activities, including bank reconciliations, cash position monitoring, cash flow forecasting, liquidity analysis, and funding recommendations.
• Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial, management, budget, forecast, variance, and regulatory reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Coordinates budget development, monitoring, forecasting, and financial analysis for assigned departments, plans, and functional areas, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Partners with Finance leadership to support financial statement preparation, regulatory reporting, board reporting, and other organizational reporting requirements.
• Serves as a key resource to Human Resources, department leaders, auditors, financial institutions, vendors, and regulatory agencies regarding accounting, payroll, compliance, reporting, and financial operations matters.
• Participates in annual CPS and Plans’ audits by preparing schedules, providing supporting documentation, and responding to audit requests.
• Develops, implements, and maintains accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, system enhancements, and process improvements to strengthen compliance, improve operational efficiency, enhance reporting accuracy, and expand automation opportunities.
• Serves as a subject matter expert on financial systems, accounting practices, regulatory compliance, and technical accounting matters, providing guidance on risk management and financial best practices.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of employee, payroll, vendor, customer, and financial information while demonstrating responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
• Ensures compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, payroll regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
