Job summary

Fehr Graham is seeking a Financial Planning and Project Accounting Manager in Schaumburg, IL to lead our project accounting and financial analysis team, strengthen forecasting, and help project managers and leaders understand what the numbers mean for their work.

This hands-on leadership role focuses on improving reporting, building financial tools, and driving profitability across a growing professional services firm. You’ll work directly with our CFO and operational leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in project accounting, financial planning and analysis, or related finance work with leadership experience.
• Experience in architecture, engineering or construction (AEC) or other project-based environments preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Power BI or comparable systems.
• Knowledge of project accounting including project setup, revenue recognition, WIP, billing, backlog and profitability.
• Experience leading accurate, timely project accounting and financial analysis cycles.
• Ability to turn complex financial data into clear recommendations for nonfinance leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead project accounting, profitability reporting, budgeting and forecasting, dashboards, KPIs and analytics.
• Lead and develop the project accounting and financial analysis team.
• Partner with project managers to evaluate results and determine next steps.
• Build and improve budgets, forecasts, profitability models, dashboards and leadership reporting.
• Recommend improvements to planning, accounting, data quality and processes.
• Balance recurring reporting with ad hoc analysis while maintaining controls.
• Flag significant risks and forecast concerns to the CFO.
• Coordinate with the Controller to clarify handoffs between project and general accounting.
