Job summary

Transitions – Mental Health Association seeks a Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting within the Finance Department, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate financial reporting. The role supervises payroll, AP, AR, billing, and reconciliations while maintaining internal controls and supporting program funding sources.

The Controller will manage month-end close, prepare financial statements, and oversee grant/contract accounting, reporting to the Finance Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with nonprofit grants and government contracts preferred.
• Minimum of seven years in accounting with leadership experience.
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software; ability to analyze financial data.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee day-to-day accounting operations.
• Manage monthly and annual close processes and deadlines.
• Maintain general ledger integrity by program, cost center, funding source, and period.
• Perform reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other timely adjustments.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
• Oversee AP, AR, billing, payroll, and related functions.
• Supervise grant and contract accounting, revenue recognition, and compliance.
• Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with GAAP, contracts, and loan covenants.
