Job summary

The New York City Bar Association, a nonprofit professional association, seeks a Controller to lead daily accounting and finance operations from a hybrid Midtown Manhattan location. The role supervises four staff, collaborates with the CFO, and supports external auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Responsibilities include month-end close, cash management, journal entries, and year-end audits, with a focus on U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent experience.
• CPA designation preferred for leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a four-person accounting team and ensure policy compliance.
• Oversee daily cash management and maintain cash flow logs.
• Manage general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and close processes.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings (Form 990, 990-T, 1120), and budgets.
• Prepare audited financial statements and analyze variances against budgets.
• Support CFO with financial analysis, system maintenance, and special projects.
